The difference in safety: The safety performance of lithium iron phosphate batteries is higher than that of ternary lithium batteries, mainly because the heat resistance of lithium iron phosphate batteries is relatively good, and the temperature of thermal runaway can reach over 800 degrees, which means that lithium iron phosphate batteries will not spontaneously ignite until they reach 800 degrees. On the other hand, ternary lithium batteries are different. The temperature of thermal runaway is basically around 200 degrees, so for hot areas, the risk of spontaneous combustion of ternary lithium batteries will be higher.
2. Different service life: Lithium iron phosphate batteries have a better cycling life than ternary lithium batteries. Generally, ternary lithium batteries have a nominal cycling time of about 2000 times, but when they are cycled no more than 1000 times, their capacity decays to half, while lithium iron phosphate batteries only decay by about 20%.
3. Different energy densities: The energy density of ternary lithium batteries is higher than that of lithium iron phosphate batteries, and the level of energy density means the amount of endurance. For batteries with the same capacity, the volume of lithium iron phosphate batteries is much larger than that of ternary lithium batteries.
4. Different low-temperature resistance: Ternary lithium batteries have better low-temperature resistance than lithium iron phosphate batteries. For example, at -20 degrees Celsius, ternary lithium batteries can release about 70% of their electricity, while lithium iron phosphate batteries can only release about 50% of their electricity at the same low temperature.
In terms of price, the production cost and price of ternary lithium batteries are high, while the price of lithium iron phosphate batteries is lower.
